Barbara Craig, Artistic Director
Barbara Craig has owned and directed Dance Project since graduating from Webster University in 1969. Her students have performed all over the world in professional companies, international theater venues, cruise ships, national festivals, and universities. Many of her students received college scholarships for dance and were accepted into national schools such as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater School in New York City. She is the director of Dance Project’s Youth Performing Ensemble, the resident student performing company that performs at local venues such as the City Museum, the Galleria, Plaza Frontenac, and Six Flags. In 1997 her performing company performed a full-length concert on the Ecstasy for Carnival Cruise Lines, and in 2001 they held a benefit for Comfort Zone Camp’s September 11th fund. Dance Project’s Youth Performing Ensemble has performed at the historic Arneson Theater on the famous Riverwalk in San Antonio, and as preshow acts for the Muny’s production of “High School Musical” and “Godspell,” the Darren Romeo Show, the Tony Orlando and Lennon Sisters Christmas Show, and Dixie Stampede in Branson. This year, the Performing Ensemble will perform as the preshow act for the Haygoods in Branson on New Year’s Day. For the past two years, she coordinated local children’s cast rehearsals for Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker.” In 2010 and 2011 she coordinated and directed The Endless Forest Nutcracker. The Moscow Ballet returned to St. Louis in 2012 and Dance Project was again asked to co-ordinate the local Children and Youth Cast. This year marks the fifth year Dance Project has held that honor.
