Dance In The Spirit of Peace

Join Common Thread Contemporary Dance Company to celebrate the spirit of Spring with a presentation of dances to uplift the soul. Performances will be held at Dance Project Saint Louis at 8:00 pm on Friday, April 19th and Saturday, April 20th, and at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 21st.

The Saturday evening performance will be followed by a reception with the Company. Come celebrate the changing of the seasons and the light and love of Common Thread!

Recently, Dance Project students Madelyn Wansong and Ines Oulamine auditioned for several summer intensives offered by prominent dance companies in the United States.
We are proud to announce that Ines was accepted into the Milwaukee Ballet School Intensive, Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts Camp, Cincinnati Ballet Summer Intensive, and the Dance Theatre of Harlem School Summer Program. Madelyn was accepted into the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music Dance Intensive, the Perry-Mansfield Young-Artists Intensive, and the Milwaukee Ballet School Intensive. Madelyn has also been accepted to the Muny Kids Performance Troupe, and will appear in the Muny’s production of “Mary Poppins” (July 25th–August 2nd).

Both have studied dance for numerous years at Dance Project. Ines is a freshman at Mary Institute and Country Day School and Madelyn is in seventh grade at Visitation Academy.

Audition News!

We are thrilled to announce that the world-renowned dance company Alonzo King LINES Ballet will hold an audition for their Summer Intensive at Dance Project Saint Louis in February!

The Alonzo King LINES Ballet Summer Program is an intensive training experience designed for aspiring dancers ages 11-24. Young dancers are guided through a collaborative journey of artistic risk-taking and independent thinking, during which they are encouraged to explore, solve problems, express themselves with fluency, and realize their full potentials.

The audition will be on Sunday, February 24th at 12:00 pm. LINES recommends that participants pre-register online. Otherwise, please arrive an hour early on the day of the audition to register.

This is a wonderful honor for our school. We’re very proud and grateful for this opportunity!

Under Construction

Construction has begun on The Dancing Bear Cottage. We will have a much larger waiting area, and the new space will allow us greater flexibility in scheduling. It’s going to be a wonderful little studio–thanks for your patience and support while construction continues!

Jumping for joy! It’s official!

We signed the lease today to rent the room next door to our studio, as an addition to our existing space.
It will be called “The Dancing Bear Cottage” and will be decorated specifically for our younger students for their classes. There will be a large waiting room and an additional classroom. We think they’ll really love it!

(Until mid-November, the space is being leased by a political party, so we won’t be able to work on it until then. We hope to have the whole space completed by the first of the year.)

Join Dance Project Saint Louis, Common Thread Contemporary Dance Company, and special guest musician Aaron Burlbaw at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles on Sunday, December 16th at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm for an evening of dance and music. Beautiful winter songs and holiday classics will fill the air at the Foundry Art Centre as we celebrate the magic and joy of wintertime.

Meet Nataliya!

We are very proud to host Moscow Ballet Soloist Nataliya Miroshnyk, who will be the audition director for the “Great Russian Nutcracker” Children’s Cast auditions at Dance Project on October 3rd, 6:30 pm.

Nataliya Miroshynk charms audiences each year with her dancing of the dramatic Spanish variation in Act II of the Great Russian Nutcracker. She has danced as a soloist with Moscow Ballet for over 5 years and is also an audition director and teacher. Miroshnyk travels across North America auditioning and rehearsing young dancers to perform with the professionals in ballets including the Great Russian Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet, and more.

In 2011 she taught the Vaganova method training for advanced and pre-professional American ballet students in Moscow Ballet Summer Intensive programs and in 2012 she was one of four Teachers for 3300 Pasco County, Florida students of the “New Horizons – A Children’s Program for Life,” a 6 week program. She graduated from the Kiev Academic Choreographic School in Ukraine and is expertly trained. Immediately upon graduation Nataliya was invited to join the company of the Odessa State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater of the Ukraine and gained a tremendous amount of experience touring the world. Nataliya’s repertoire includes classic ballets such as Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Don Quixote and, of course, The Great Russian Nutcracker.
