The Dance Project Performance Ensemble traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in late May/early June to perform at Country Tonite and at the Island in Pigeon Forge, and for a photo shoot in some of the most beautiful areas of the Mountains. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge border the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which attracts visitors from all over the world.
We wanted our Ensemble students and their families to experience the part of our country that inspired our 2017 recital, “An Appalachian Spring,” and the creation of some of our most beloved work. “The Endless Forest Nutcracker” and Jennifer Medina’s “Women of The Cove” are both based on stories of the families who lived in the Smokies long before it became the most-visited National Park in the world.
It was the first time many of our families went to the Great Smoky Mountains–we hope they had a wonderful time!
